This is the period most people remember from their history lessons. Great Britain did, however, request that Churchill return to political influence and power. It’s hard to view Churchill as being influentially flawed, we only remember the great speaker who could turn a phrase into inspirational motivation. After that battle, and losing his powerful position, he retreated into a solitary lifestyle. Churchill painfully understood, power and its influence can create a tragic outcome.

His convincing argument to commit service members to this battle came at a great price 56,000 allied troops lost their lives and 200,000 were estimated in casualties or missing in action. The battle at Galliopoli was one of those events where Churchill’s influence was steeped in his power. He was the First Lord of the Admiralty during World War I and he had a difficult time convincing his colleagues of the necessity of their involvement in the war. Churchill had developed a firm grasp of both: power in influence and influence in power throughout his years of service to Great Britain.Ĭhurchill rose from being a military services member to First Lord of the Admiralty. Winston Churchill was one of these world leaders that had great influence and power during this period.
#WHO WAS WINSTON CHURCHILL INFLUENCES SERIES#
This series highlighted the main world leaders that influenced the events of both world wars. I wondered to myself, who could possibly use power and influence interchangeably? And then I remembered seeing The History Channel’s, The World Wars. It all started with listening to Jeffrey Pfeiffer simply define the difference between power and influence as, “Power is potential and influence is power in use.” (PSU, 2014). It seems rather silly that the interplay of these two leadership characteristics would keep my mind buzzing for a week, but it has. I always thought that powerful people were naturally influential but, didn’t conceive that influential people were necessarily powerful. Power in influence, influence in power the idea that each supports the other has entertained my mind for a week now.
